Piet Mondrian Composition Nails

This tutorial is inspired by Piet Mondrian's Composition II in Red, Blue and Yellow and is something a little bit different with bold primary colours )

1)

You will need a five colours: black, yellow, white, blue and red. I used Barry M Black #47 (not pictured!) Nail Star Yellow, Barry M  Matt White #66,  Rimmel #198 Azure and Ciate Boudoir

2)

The first thing to do is paint two thin coats of your white polish on all of your nails.

3)

Next, use your black polish and carefully paint some vertical and horizontal lines. They key to this look is not always going fully across the nail, so that the squares become a bit disjointed (sorry the picture came out blurry!)

4)

Next, fill in some of the squares with your red, yellow and black polishes. They can be adjacent but make sure to leave some squares white :)

5)

Then paint some different black outlines on the rest of your nails, and colour in with your red, blue, yellow and black polishes as in step 4. The grid can be however you like with more/less squares than mine depending on your nail size.

And this is the finished Piet Mondrian inspired nail art :)

Autumn Dot Manicure

This tutorial shows how to create this autumn dot manicure with warm orange, red and gold tones perfect for this season :)

1)

For this design you will need  dark red, orange, peach, nude and gold varnishes. I used (l-r) Barry M #325 Red Wine, Max Factor #25 Bright Orange, Barry M Gelly #319 Papaya, Barry M #342 Nude and Barry M #320 Foil Effects.

2)

Begin by using your nude shade to paint two thin coats as a base.

3)

Next, take your red shade and, using the very edge of your brush, dab on a few dots across the top of your nail.

4)

Then use your peach/light orange polish and add some more dots to the top of your nail. The dots look best if the overlap a bit so don't worry about being too neat :)

5)

Now use your gold and orange polishes to add some more dots to fill in the rest of the top of your nail.

6)

Repeat steps 3-5 for the rest of your nails to complete the look, then paint on a clear top coat if you have one.

And this is the finished Autumn Dot Manicure design :)

Hitchcock Nails

This tutorial shows how to create these nail designs inspired by various Alfred Hitchcock films. It features (l-r above) a monochrome spiral for Vertio, red blood on white for the Psycho shower scene, lots of bird silhouettes on mint (because of her dress) to represent The Birds, the accent nail is a cartoony version of a Hitchcock blonde (I was thinking Rear Window, Grace Kelly) and also Rope is illustrated by a noose.

1)

For this tutorial you will need white, red, black, nude, mint, blue, brown and yellow polishes. I used (l-r) Collection #103 French White, Barry M Red Wine, Barry M Black, Barry M Nude, Saffron Mint, Rimmel Lasting Finish Azure, Max Factor Coffee Brown and the Yellow is from a nail star set.

2)

Start by painting your thumb and index nails white, your middle nail mint, the accent nail nude and the little nail blue.

3)

The simplest nail is the Rope one, where on your little nail you simply paint a thin brown line down your nail, then carefully add a circle onto the end of it.

4)

On your accent nail, paint half the nail yellow, then add some curve towards the plain side to create a profile type shape.

5)

Next, add a red sideways triangle for the lips then slightly above dab your blue polish to create an eye. Give her a flick of eyeliner with your black polish by curving over the blue eye and extending outwards.

6)

These birds are fairly simple as they are just basic outlines - just use your black shade to carefully paint an elongated m shape. The best way is to paint one curve at a time, rather than trying to do it in one go.

7)

Next, add as many more birds as you like or can fit :)

8)

For the Vertigo nail, take your black polish and carefully paint a large circular shape as close to the edges of your thumb nail as you can, ending it slightly further in than you started.

9)

Then continue this curve and spiral it inwards. If you find lines hard to paint, try doing little dots and then painting between them like a connect-the-dots drawing, or do lots of dots next to eachother and simple smooth them out after :)

10)

For the Psycho bloody nail, give your index nail a red french tip - try tilting your nail towards your brush stroke to create an even curve.

11)

Now add some dropping blood - use your red polish and draw some random, fairly thick shapes extending from the french tip, smooth these into the straight red line by blending the two layers of red together. Then add some random drops wherever you like on your nail.

And this is the finished Hitchcock nail art design, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! :)

Disney Character Nails

This tutorial shows how to create this abstract Disney character design. It features nails that represent Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald, Minnie and Pluto :)

1)

For this design you'll need quite a few colours! You'll need: black, red, orange, white, blue, nude, yellow and green. I used (l-r) Barry M #47 Black, Collection #5 Fire Engine, Max Factor #25 Bright Orange, Collection #103 French White, Barry M #306 Blueberry Ice Cream, Barry M #342 Nude and the yellow and green are from a nail art set

2)

The first step is to paint your little finger nail yellow, your middle finger nail white and the remaining three with your nude polish.

3)

For the Pluto nail (little finger), paint one thick black stripe across the base of your nail, then paint a thin black stripe across the centre. Next, take your green varnish and paint a thick french tip across the top of your nail.

4)

For the Minnie Mouse nail (accent nail), first paint a really thick red french tip across the top of your nail, then paint a red stripe across the base of your nail. Then, take your black varnish and paint a slightly thinner stripe below that red one.

5)

Next, take your white varnish and carefully paint lots of random polka dots on your ride sections to complete Minnie's bow and dress detail.

6)

Now for the Donald Duck nail (middle nail), take your blue shade and paint a thick french tip across the top of your nail. Then paint another blue line across the base of your nail.

7)

Next, use your yellow shade to paint a thin line across the centre of your nail to represent his beak. Then use your red varnish to paint a short line across the end of your nail to represent his bow tie.

8)

For the Gooofy nail (index finger), first use your green polish to paint a line across the base of your nail to represent his hat. Next, take your orange shade and paint just under 1/2 of the top of your nail for his shirt.

9)

To complete the Goofy nail, simply use your black polish to carefully paint a thin black line underneath your green line to represent his hair line.

10)

The last part of this design is the Mickey mouse nail: on your thumb nail, use your red varnish to paint the top half of your nail. Next, take your black varnish and paint a brush-width line across the base of your nail.

11)

Finally, use your yellow varnish to paint two ovals in the centre of the red section as his trouser buttons.

And this is the finished disney character nail art design :)

Valentine's Hearts & Roses Nails

This tutorial shows how to make this pretty pink and red design, which is perfect for valentine's :) It features lots of little hearts and some pink roses for a cute look.

1)

For this tutorial you will need five colours: red, light pink, white, dark pink and green. I used (l-r) Collection #5 Fire Engine, Barry M #309 Strawberry Ice Cream, Collection #103 French White, and the last two are from a nail art set.

2)

Begin by painting two thin coats of your white polish on all of your nails.

3)

First we need to add the hearts. To make a heart just carefully paint two little dots almost touching each other.

4)

Next, carefully paint a little triangle shape at the bottom of your two dots by extending a diagonal line from the edge of each dot and filling in the middle.

5)

Add some more hearts using your red and pink varnishes using the same method. Repeat this pattern on your thumb nail.

6)

Now it's time to paint some roses: start by using your light pink shade to paint some random, uneven blob shapes on your remaining three nails.

7)

Next, using your dark pink polish, carefully add some detail to your roses. Do this by painting some concentric curves on the light pink blobs - try to create C and U shapes.

8)

The last step is to add some leaves to the roses: take your green shade and paint one or two little lines extending from each of your flowers.

And this is the finished Valentine's hearts and roses nail art design :)
